An all-too-common misconception of the Christian life: the thinking that, although we are saved by grace, we earn or forfeit God’s blessing in our daily lives by our performance. P5.

Preaching the gospel to ourselves every day addresses both the self-righteous Pharisee and the guilt-laden sinner that dwell in our hearts. Because the gospel is only for sinners, preaching it to ourselves every day reminds us that we are indeed sinners in need of God’s grace. P17

As Christians, should we view ourselves as saints or sinners? My answer is, both. We should always view ourselves both in terms of what we are in Christ, that is, saints, and what we are in ourselves, namely, sinners. To help us understand this twofold view of ourselves, consider Jesus an analogy. In His own person he was sinless, but as our representative He assumes our guilt. P31;

It is not our contrition or sorrow for our sin, it is not our repentance, it is not even the passing of a certain number of hours during whih we feel we are on some kind of probagion that cleanse us. It is the blood of Christ, she once for all on Calvary 2000 years ago but appropriated daily or even many times a day, that cleanses our conscience and gives us a renewed sense of peach with God. P49

They will then be truly justified (saved from the penalty of sin)… P90
